REVIEW

This book contains essential information you should know about taking care of your skin. Everything from managing your skin through weather, stress, acne, and everything else you can think of that pertains to skin. The book gave an in-depth study of skin, which included a diagram that explained each layer of skin & its duties.  This book is not strictly for teens. I have so many issues with my skin, and this book came to the rescue.  I love the shaving tips – Tweeze it, Wax it, Shave it.  I’m the type of the person that wants to shave everything instead of using tweezers, but after reading this book, I will have to reconsider my choices.

Skin: The Bare Facts also included natural remedies for irritated skin, cleaning your pores, and reducing under-eye puffiness. So the next time you go grocery shopping, pick up some oatmeal, egg whites, and avocado and have a spa day at home.

I highly recommend this book for all ages.

REVIEW

Let me take a deep breath…

Growing up the conversation about the bird and bees went this way…

Mom: Sex! Don’t do it. If I find out you are having sex I will whip your a**
Me: Ok

Sex is never an easy topic to talk to with your kids. I think parents should give their kids an uncensored lesson to sex, because if you let the world teach them the results may not be pretty. I thought I was prepared when I started reading Sex: A Book for Teens for review.

Hold My Mule…

This book is as uncensored as they come. The book addresses many topics such as sexual orientations, safe sex, masturbation, STDs, and much more. This is a very informative book mixed with humor (to lighten the mood in some parts). I would advise parents to read this book first before sharing the information with their kids. Then discuss the contents of this book with them.

There is some strong content in this book, but it’s needed in today’s culture.

Review: Girls Against Girls - Bonnie Burton

Product Details
Reading level: Teen Nonfiction
Paperback: 120 pages
Publisher: Zest Books
Language: English
ISBN-13: 978-0-9790173-6-0

REVIEW

Girls Against Girl: Why We Are Mean To Each Other And How We Can Change asks the age-old question, that no one seems to have the answer to? Let me scratch that - I think we all have an idea why girls are against other girls, but what do we with that information. Do we use the information to build each other up or do we continue to tear each other down?

Girls Against Girls is broke down in 6 sections (theories)

1. Why we hurt each other
2. Methods of our Meanness
3. Bearing the Brunt of it
4. Calling in Reinforcements
5. Stopping the Cycle
6. Teaming Up instead of Tearing each other down

Author Bonnie Burton offers tips & scenarios for each section. There are quotes from movies, female singers, and athletes. This is very informative for teens and parents. I like that the Author didn't come across as preachy and knowing all the answers. As a teen, I remember dealing with so much in grade school & high school I wish I had a book like this.

REVIEW

Who doesn't love having the inside scoop to something Scandalous? Growing up everyone I knew would come to me for the latest information on current events. Being the only child for years - newspapers, magazines, encyclopedias, and books were my close confidantes. I would soak up as much information as I could.

This is the perfect book for young adults who need a crash course on some of the major events that happened in their parent's lifetime. Everything wasn't always about the Rihannas, Beyonces, and Lil Waynes of the world. Scandalous covers everything from The Miss America nude photos (Vanessa Williams) to the Bush/Gore election. Who can forget The Jim Bakker sex & money scandal?

This book is very informative. The layout is perfect for kids who tend to shy away from anything regarding history. I can't rave enough about this book. I highly recommend this book.

REVIEW

Dumped is the ultimate advice book for teens who are dealing/dealt with a break-up. I don't ever recall getting dumped... Ok... I'm lying. After my first break-up, I remember being immured in my room for hours. Getting dumped can be one of the most horrendous things you will experience in life, but life does go on.

Dumped details what to do after being dumped, the emotions you feel after being dumped, avoiding temptations & pitfalls, learning how to cope, and ultimately learning how to get over it. One of the things I loved about this book is the Quizzes & lists.

For example: 20 Movies to Curl Up and Cry With - 10 Clever Ways to Make Him Regret it.

The book is the perfect size to slide in and out of your purse without anyone noticing.

As some parents can attest to when their kids become teenagers it can be hard to get them to open up about certain things. I think Dumped is a perfect conversation starter with your kids, and if they aren't ready to talk about it, slip the book on their dresser and walk away.

REVIEW

When I'm confronted with CRAP - the first thing, I ask myself - Will this really matter five years from now? Sometimes it works - other times it doesn't. Crap to me is that annoying itch that you can't seem to reach. It irritates you for a bit, but it evidently goes away.

Crap is the perfect advice books for teens & great reminder for Adults. The information contained within the pages are very vital to the many obstacles your teen will face during their lives. Authors Erin Conley, Karen Macklin, and Jake Miller did an excellent job of creating an amusing, thoroughly entertaining book that will keep readers' attention.

I highly recommend this book!!!

Book Blog Tour: Little Fish - Ramsey Beyer (Review/Giveaway)

Ramsey Beyer's debut autobiographical graphic novel, Little Fish: A Memoir from A Different Kind of Year, is the coming-of-age story of a small-town high schooler's transformation into an independent city-dwelling college freshman. Told through a blend of journal entries and lists plus comic-style artwork and collages, the book touches on challenges every student meets when facing the world for the first time on their own, and the unease - as well as excitement - that comes along with those challenges. Everyone can relate to Ramsey's journey from childhood to independence - from adjusting to being away from home to navigating new friendships and finding the right path.

REVIEW

I was so excited to read/review Little Fish by Ramsey Beyer, mainly because I love reading graphic novels. Author Ramsey Beyer takes readers back in time when she was a 18-year-old embarking on a new time in her life. She moved from her hometown of Paw Paw, Michigan to Baltimore, Maryland to start her freshman year of college. Everyone remembers being the "new kid" on the block.

Even though I never left the city to attend college, I remember what I experienced the first year of college life. I knew the life I was accustomed to was going to change in a blink of an eye. Little Fish is filled with humorous, thought-provoking, and tender moments of young Ramsey's life.

The story is told through beautiful illustrations, journal entries, and lists. I still make lists... I chuckled while reading this book, because there was so much I could relate to. It made me reflect on my life thus far. I really enjoyed the visual experience.

I recommend this book to young adults that are finishing high school and/or seniors who have recently graduated. This book is a perfect tool to show you things you may or may not encounter.
