Review:

The Curto Family has created a fantastic book for the Christmas Holiday. I really enjoyed reading this book with my 7-year-old. He was able to connect with Alfred’s feeling as we were reading the book together – which lead to a wonderful conversation. I also loved the eye-popping illustrations in the book. My Christmas Trees comes in a box, so it was extra special learning about Christmas tree farms.
Side Note: One of my favorite things about reading Children books are a Solid Storyline & Beautiful illustrations.

I recommend this book for all ages.

Can I be....FRANK! - Rickey Teems II

When local karaoke legend, Franklin Lee, loses everything, he quickly learns it’s going to take more than following the lyrics on a screen to bring harmony back into his life. But an unfiltered tongue, outdated style, and an overpowering addiction, sit on his shoulder whispering sweet temptations in his ear like a miniature devil. But when he meets an angelic songbird that revitalizes his inner spirit, Frank will have to fight off the familiar if he wants to uncover and explore his buried faith. He will quickly realize that who we are and who we want to be can put us in the fight for our life, and he is left pondering: Can I be Frank! – Amazon

Where do I begin?

Can I be….Frank!

Franklin Lee sets the stage on fire when he performs his weekly routine at the local karaoke bar in his town, but behind the shining stage lights his life a hot mess. Franklin goes through what I love to call the “Tower Effect”.  The “Tower Effect” is when Life as you know it changes dramatically before your eyes, and the only thing you can do is ride out the waves. The important lesson of going through the “Tower Effect” is having Faith in GOD – and knowing that before the NEW can shine – the OLD has to die.

Can I be… Frank! is a well written, thought-provoking, and powerful novella that will definitely have you wanting more. Rickey Teems II is an immensely talented Author that’s never afraid to tackle the tough hitting topics. His words always connect with me on a personal, emotional, and spiritual level.

The characters in this novella were memorable – Rita, Frank’s soon-to-be ex-wife, who feels this is her time to find what she’s been messing, but she gets more than she bargained for. Adam & Ava, a married couple who tends to conveniently forget their marriage vows when “new opportunities” come their way.

In true Rickey Teems style this story has its moments of humor especially when it came to describing Franklin Lee.

“Frank had worn the same misshapen mini-afro since the early eighties after he finally let the juice out of his jheri curl………. Adam had believed they stopped making corduroys decades ago, but Frank had consistently proven him wrong.”

I really enjoyed reading this novella. Can I be… Frank!!! – Buy this novella!!! Readers, If you don’t know who Rickey Teems II is – I think it’s time you found out.

The Christmas Witchling - D. Byron Patterson

Since before the Dark Ages, the mysterious Witches of Evernight Mountain have rid the world of evil spirits to prepare for the Christmas season. Having performed this sacred duty every year without fail for a millennium, why would the 1000th Anniversary All Hallows Eve Jubilee be any different? When toymaking Elves suddenly move into the valley below the dark mountain, Witch and Elf alike begin to realize that nothing at the North Pole is what it seems. Still, it takes the courage of an eight-year-old Witchling named Tulalulalen Flue to set things right when everything goes wrong. Not only does she change the lives around her -- she changes the world. - Amazon

The Christmas Witchling is a heartwarming Christmas story that’s sure to entertain & educate children of all ages.  This book tells the story of Tulalulalen “Tulie” Flue, who is different from the witches her age.
D. Byron Patterson does an exceptional job of capturing the emotions felt by Tulie, who is bullied by her classmates & brothers because she has an abnormal color skin, unable to use her magic right, and cannot seem to get the hang of flying her broom correctly. When a magical event happens she learns that everyone is special & beautiful in their own skin.
I would definitely recommend this book.

Blog Tour: Guilty Pleasures - Pynk

Chapter excerpt – POLITICS.ESCORTS.BLACKMAIL. by Pynk

Midori’s trip the previous weekend with the Long Island doctor to the Florida Keys was spectacular. She wasn’t even mad at her sister for assigning the booking to her. Turns out the client wanted the GFE, or girlfriend experience, as opposed to what most of the men who paid for her services wanted—the PSE, or porn star experience. The PSE was usually freakier and definitely more expensive because it involved sex that was more hardcore.

The Long Island doctor, a.k.a. Mr. 81, who was in his fifties, paid top dollar for someone to simply be the girl next door, doing what some girlfriends do. Be his willing, feminine, sexy trophy. No drama allowed.

For a moment, while with him, Midori had actually forgotten she was a working girl and fell victim to the allure of the imaginary romance he was trying to portray for his own reasons. No one on the Florida Keys island knew who he was, unlike in the city, where he was often recognized. The two of them were incognito, holding hands, pretending to be a couple though having just met. While she fulfilled his fantasy, she felt cherished and got lost along the white sugar sand beaches with spiraling coconut palm trees, under powder-blue skies in mid-eighty-degree weather. He fulfilled her heart’s fantasy without even knowing it.

The first evening was like a true date. They met at the restaurant called Shor. After dinner, he walked her to her own two-bedroom suite, and he went to his. They exchanged nothing more than a good-night peck on the lips.

The next day after breakfast, he took her shopping at the local boutiques and bought her formal evening wear, a sapphire bustier with a matching thong, skimpy lingerie, and a tangerine bikini. They went parasailing and scuba diving on the private beach. That evening they enjoyed a cozy dinner cruise at sunset and danced the night away like newlyweds.

Later, in his hotel suite, after sipping expensive champagne and feeding each other chocolate-dipped strawberries, she allowed him to live out his desires: French kissing, expert cunnilingus, her riding him until she had an orgasm, or three, and then him mounting her until he got his, all to the sounds of smooth, baby-making jazz. Then, after about an hour’s worth of pillow talk, she went to her hotel room, floating on cloud nine.

He was the head of thoracic surgery at the University Hospital of Brooklyn, and if Taye Diggs had an older brother, he would be it. He had dark skin, white teeth, a bald head, and he

was sexy but he acted like he didn’t know it. He was a leading, esteemed surgeon who mended hearts for a living. But it became obvious to Midori that he was trying to survive after having his heart broken.

After the throes of deep sex, while holding "Brooklyn," her escort name, in his arms, he shared with her: "My wife is cheating on me. I don’t want to give her half, since we didn’t sign a prenup. After twenty-two years, we’re in a sexless marriage. It all comes down to the fact that it’s cheaper to keep her. So instead of having a chick on the side who wants more, I hire an escort every now and then. But I’m never with the same girl twice."

Midori gave a smile but frowned inside. In her mind she snapped her fingers, Damn.

The final day they rented scooters to get in some last-minute sightseeing, had lunch, then simply checked out of the hotel and headed off to the airport in separate town cars like it was all a dream. They never even spent one night together.

Trusting The Law - Kendall Evans

Trusting the Law is a short historical/romance novel that takes place during the tough times of the Prohibition Era. Grace is not your typical, by the book kind of gal. She works for Marshall Fields during the day and runs a speak-easy by night, and she does all of this just to pay the insurmountable medical bills for her ailing uncle, that raised her after her parents died. Grace unexpectedly meets Paul, a local Chicago police officer that turns her world upside down. Grace seems to be very much ahead of her times in my opinion.

From the very start I was instantly drawn to her character, because she has this sassy never back down attitude, and does what she has to do to take care of the ones she loves. (I think we all have been in that boat at one time or another in our lives) This novel for the most part seems to keep with the time period from what I know of it. I had no problem understanding the story line or the choices the characters made it very realistic.

This story has an emotional turning point at the end and really tugs at your heart strings. I liked the main characters for the most part and the plot was very good in my opinion, the only complaint I would say I had, was that it wasn't nearly long enough.

I would recommend it to anyone that's looking for something new to read, in a short time frame.

What Kind of Fool - Rhonda McKnight

What Kind of Fool is an awesome book by Rhonda McKnight that confirms true love does indeed conquer all.   It is a must read for everyone.  It should be included in pre-marital counseling for couples as well as for singles.   Author McKnight displays the strength of marriage, dedication, communication, self-examination, and forgiveness.

In the book, Greg and Angelina are confronted with communication, financial, forgiveness, infidelity, and trust issues within their marriage.  Their marriage goes through several ups and downs.  Author McKnight does a great job of keeping you engaged.  I was eager to find out what was going to happen next in the story.  I was excited to ride on the roller coaster that had several interesting twists and turns.

Author McKnight brought this story full circle.  It had an excellent and realistic plot and character development.  The events that occurred were so realistic, I found myself talking to and giving advice to the characters to help them through the different issues.

While reading the book, I asked questions such as:  What kind of fool would jeopardize their marriage and career?  What kind of fool would stay in a marriage after infidelity?  What kind of fool would become involved with a married man and befriend his wife?  What kind of fool thinks a married man is going to leave his wife for you?

This book will make you believe in old fashioned love and that nothing is too hard for a couple as long as they have each other.  It reminds you that although it is not always easy to forgive, it can happen if you allow it.  It also reminds you how to treat your mate and that there is room for improvement on both sides and that you should not be so busy with outside commitments when your marriage and family should be your main priority.

After completing the novel, Author McKnight did indeed answer all of my questions.  The kind of fool that goes through the same issues as Greg and Angelina is the kind of fool who recognizes true perseverance, dedication, and commitment.

What kind of fool will make you ask the question will I do everything in my marriage to make it work or did I do everything to make it work?  Sometimes we walk away over petty issues instead of fighting it out to the end and remembering why we fell in love in the first place.

I absolutely loved this book.  I look forward to reading other novels by Author Rhonda McKnight and will definitely be recommending this one to everyone.

Moon Called - Patricia Briggs

When I saw Moon Called, I just picked it up on impulse because liked the cover art. I didn't expect to want every book in this series; a good book for me is like a drug! Some people need caffeine daily; I just need a good read..

Patricia Briggs builds an alternate world where werewolves, fae, and vampires co-exist with humans – but the fae and the werewolves are the only ones to come out in the open, so to speak. Modern technology has forced much of the supernatural community out of hiding. Many are not happy about it. In walks Mercedes Thompson-- A mechanic who also happens to be a walker. She can shape-shift into a coyote, a trait she inherited from her Native American father who died before she was born. Mercy’s human mother couldn't deal with occasionally finding a puppy in the crib, and gave Mercy to a werewolf family who raised her in their pack. Mercedes owns her own business, a car repair shop. She bought the shop from Zee, a metal-working Fae, who wanted to retire but still helps her out on occasion.

Mercy lives in a trailer and shares her back yard with the local werewolf Alpha, Adam. The two are very attracted to each other, but when Mercy’s first love Samuel comes to town, she is torn between the two. Samuel is the son of the Marrok (the Alpha of the Alphas, ) Sam is a powerful werewolf, that could be the Alpha of his own pack, But Sam is more interested in starting up where he left off with Mercy. Adam secretly told his pack that Mercy was his “mate” to keep them from harassing her – but failed to tell Mercy that tiny detail. Plenty of action mingles with tons of romantic tension.

I like Mercy for many reasons – she is smart, stubborn, and a born romantic. Growing up in a werewolf pack taught her how to get her way without being too pushy. Her intelligence and curiosity get her in trouble a lot, but also has her supernatural friends asking for her help on occasion. In my opinion this book was a good read because the author really pulls you into the plot and makes you feel immersed in the action, also I enjoyed all the back-stories that were included that will more than likely lead up to the final book in the series.
I would rate this book a 5 - I loved it and would encourage readers that like the fiction/paranormal genre to check out all the different series this author has to offer!!!

One Eyed Jack - Christopher J. Lynch

Professional blackmailer John Sharp, aka One Eyed Jack, is a man who knows how to keep a secret – for a price. But when a routine case of infidelity takes an unexpected detour, he soon finds himself caught in a tangled web of double-blackmail, commodities manipulation, and trying to rescue the woman that had once been his target. - Amazon

From the first introduction of John Sharp aka One Eyed Jack, I knew my anxiety levels would go up. If you want to know why they call him One Eyed Jack…..READ THE BOOK!! Now back to my review…  Can you imagine someone knowing some of your deepest dark secrets?

Author Christopher J. Lynch does an excellent job of developing a story that will keep you on the edge of your seats. This Author gives his readers a strong plot, developed characters, and an all around entertaining read.

I’m still not sure if I like John Sharp, but then again… I do like him. That’s the best part of reading a story like this - you are invested in the characters. This book was very fast paced, suspenseful, and add a little blackmail to the list you have a winner. Word to the Wise: Don’t cross One Eyed Jack!!!

I look forward to see what new drama John Sharp aka One Eyed Jack will find himself in.

Fancy - Vanna B

Author Vanna B introduces readers to Maribel "Fancy" Alvarez, who starts off as an innocent wallflower until she meets a new friend named, Shawn. Shawn takes Maribel under her wings and introduces her to designer clothes. Maribel is transformed overnight to Fancy. Fancy is a confident, no-nonsense, fearless young lady who is ready to take on the world. Is Fancy ready for the twists & turns life can sometime present or will she find out everything that glitters isn’t gold.

This book shows readers what can happen when you are easily influenced by your peers & surroundings. Young adults these days are dealing with so many negative influences around them – which could make it easy for them to fall into the traps of life.

Overall, this book was a very easy read for me. I would definitely recommend this book to young adults.

Book Blog Tour: Conversations of a Watchman - K.E. Allen

About the Book
How does a person move from a place deficient of light?  How can an individual shift from a place of complete and utter chaos, obscurity, apathy, and adversity?  The pathway to transformation is through in-depth conversations with the One True God of Creation–El·ō·hēm'.  For you to move to a place of prophetic providence, your conversation must be divinely inspired.  Hebrews 11:3 states: “The worlds were framed by the Word of God.”  Framing begins with an idea, expands as a result of the imagination, and gives life through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through divine utterance for a specific purpose.  Declaring the Word of God releases the creative power of God for authentic transformation.
K. E. Allen designed this book to draw you into a deeper conversation with the Father to renew your prayer life, mend your brokenness, enlighten your pathway, and arrange your chaos according to the divine order of God. This resource will help you exercise your kingly and priestly authority and impose kingdom mandates to release God’s original intent in your life, family, community, city, region, and nation.  It will encourage you to frame your prophetic destiny.

Tell us about yourself?
I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA.  I have a strong legacy of women and men of God that have impacted my life.  But, the person who has had the greatest influence on my life is my grandmother, Mary Williams.  She was a strong woman of faith and prayer.  In a denomination where female preachers were not accepted, one could always find her preaching, teaching, and hosting meetings/shut-ins where people would be filled with the Holy Spirit and demons were cast out. In fact, I have her ordination papers that she kept hidden under her bed.  Why do I tell you about my grandmother when you ask about me?  Because if it wasn’t for her courage and strength I would not be who I am.  I watched her life until the day of her passing and as an adult, it is my desire to emulate her life.  As she was a woman of wisdom and grace, so am I.  Who am I?  Inside of me is a strong inheritance of prayer, faith, and a full life in Christ Jesus-all passed down to me by my grandmother, my grandfather, and my parents.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?
By far, the most difficult aspect of writing this book was the editing process.

Did you have to do any special research for this book?
When one writes about principles pertaining to the Bible, there is always extensive research and study involved so as to ensure accuracy.

Why do you write? Is it something you have always done or always wanted to do? Or is it something you started fairly recently?
I write because it is a passion I enjoy.  As far as I can remember, I have always loved to write.  As a young child I wrote fiction stories all the time.  In my teenage years, I wrote poetry and by the time was in college I started writing songs.   So, writing, in some form, has always been a part of my life.

How did you feel when you received the first copy of your book?
It was a surreal moment.  Being able to hold what God had given me in my hands literally overwhelmed me.  My heart was filled with so much gratitude towards God and all the people that had help my God-given dream become a reality.

Amnesia - Brian W. Smith

Best-Selling Author, Wesley Paisley is on his way to an Awards ceremony when he loses control of his car – bumps his head and is left on the highway – with no memory & holding on for dear life. He is “saved” by a dysfunctional racist family who decides to keep his identity a secret because they are more concern about claiming the reward money.  Will Wesley be able to regain his memory before it’s too late?

Anyone that has read a Brian W. Smith book knows you will be in store for some dramatic turns that will keep you guessing to the very end. When I read the synopsis for Amnesia, I was very eager to get my hands on the book.

The premise of this book is very good, but unlike other Brian W. Smith books I have read in the past, I wasn’t invested in these characters. I felt there were some parts of the book (Jacob/Malcolm) that should have been left on the cutting room floor. In my opinion, the story started off full blast, but lost some of its steam somewhere in the middle of the read.

In true Brian W. Smith style he did add a twist at the end of the story that I definitely didn’t see coming. Overall, Amnesia is not a bad read, and it will definitely have you talking.

Prologue
Tall houses surrounded the large pond. There was a great distance between them, but somehow, they all appeared together. He watched her through the upstairs window. Her hair was thick and curly, but the strands were disarrayed. The dress she wore was a dingy white. She sat before the pond with bare feet curled at her side. She intrigued him.
Slowly, he approached her from behind. The cold air caused the pond to release a steamy mist that blended with the surrounding fog. He wanted to touch her, but he did not want to frighten her. So he stood. Then, he looked up to the dimly lit sky. The sun peeked through one great hole amongst the clouds. It appeared a million light years away.
He then lowered his head to look at her. She stretched out her legs before the pond and was about to place her bare feet into the freezing water. “Stop!” he shouted.
He thought she would turn completely around, but she didn’t. She only slightly turned, exposing the side of her chocolate-brown face. He noticed the dimple as she smirked. With her legs still outstretched, she dipped part of her feet into the water.

About the Author
Stephanie Acon has been writing edgy fiction tales and poetry since the age of ten years old. However, it wasn't until the age of 21, when she found Hip-Hop, (or Hip-Hop found her) that subsequently she became known to the underground Hip-Hop world as NinaRaw. For ten years consistent, she rocked with force, and played a vital part on the side of Systematic Muzick Inc. ('The OESC' and 'The Murc Unit'). In the mist of performing, writing, rhyming, recording, selling and shopping mixtapes...amongst the community, somewhere, NinaRaw became hailed and dubbed as the "queen". And not by way of cliché props, but strictly because those saying the title "queen" meant it when they said it, and said it when they felt it necessary. 'ESCAPE FROM A NIGHTMARE' is her first urban fiction novel. Her inspirations have been drawn from the many experiences she has endured, observed, and inhabited in the streets of St. Louis.

Bluesday - Adrienne Thompson

Bobbie BluAnn Brooks world of blues comes full circle, just like a blues song. She goes from having it all, to having absolutely nothing in the blink of an eye. But while she is at the bottom, Bobbie finds the real friends and real love that have always been waiting there to pick her up.

Adrienne Thompsons writing is smooth and realistic it’s not over the top and the love story wasn't so perfect that it's just not believable. I loved Bobbie's character because she was flawed, but she was able to admit it and grow from her mistakes. She was strong and weak at the same time, and that made me connect with her. Can't wait to read the sequel!!!

You Can't Eat Toes For Breakfast - Rickey Teems II

You Can’t Eat Toes For Breakfast tells the story of an imaginative kid named George. George mishears his mother’s instructions, which takes him on an adventure of self-discovery.

This is a wonderfully written book.I really enjoy reading children’s books that has character(s) with vivid imaginations. This book has a strong teaching element, interesting to young readers (just reading the title of this book will pique the interest of a child), and funny… all of the elements that makes a great children’s book.

Children’s books aren’t always an easy genre to write, but I applaud Mr. Teems for stepping up to the plate and knocking it out of the ballpark. Home Run!!!…

If you are looking for a book to arouse your children’s curiosity and leave them entertained, You Can’t Eat Toes For Breakfast is definitely the book for you & your child(ren).

The Funny Chaps - Kaleb Doutrive

The Funny Chaps follows Jack and his brother, Timmy as they prepare to move to a new city. When they meet new friends in the town of Martinville, that’s when the adventures start.
This is a very valuable book for children of all ages to read. This story shows children the importance of friendship.  I had my two youngest sons read this book, and we had a lengthy discussion on the lessons they learned from the book.
I highly recommend this book.

Beautiful, Dirty, Rich: A Novel - J.D. Mason

Everyone has heard the saying "karma's a bitch". But when Desi Green's friend, Lonnie gives karma a helping hand, she becomes one very vindictive and dangerous woman. In Beautiful, Dirty, Rich, Desi has just been released from a 25 year jail bid for killing a very wealthy and important man in Blink, Texas. She has also inherited millions of dollars from the very man she murdered, which doesn't sit well with the man's son, Jordan. He'd prefer that Desi just disappear, but Desi has other ideas. With Lonnie's encouragement, Desi decides to tell the world her side of what went down the night Mr. J was shot. In the process, twisted stories emerge, horrible secrets are uncovered, and some of the key players involved in the investigation and prosecution of Desi Green turn up dead, or end up wishing they were.

The characters were believable and intriguing. The storyline had me on edge and I could hardly put the book down. The secrets revealed in the story were totally unexpected and completely jaw dropping.

I am giving this book a rating of 5 stars.
