Review: The Trophy Wives - Charmaine R. Parker

Three trophy wives explore ways of finding satisfaction beyond their marriages.

Shayla, Kyle, and Amber have a lot in common: stunning good looks, college educations, rich husbands, and—despite their affluent lifestyles— dissatisfaction with their lives. Each feels there is a void and seeks fulfillment beyond the routine of a trophy wife.

The three often draw support from each other, but despite their close-knit relationship, each has her own secret she’s not willing to share. So when another woman, Terra, befriends the trio, it isn’t certain whether she’s sincere or whether she has her own special agenda…

As the skeletons in their closets start to come out, Shayla, Kyle, and Amber discover that glamorous looks and coveted worlds cannot shield them from the realities of life. Discover what happens when scandal meets suspense among these smart, rich—yet vulnerable—women. - Amazon

REVIEW

This book written by Charmaine R. Parker is an easy read that kept my interest from beginning to end.  I was anxious to know the outcome of this book.  It is a story that involves three best friends. All the friends are trophies for their husbands.  They are all kept in high fashion, beautiful homes, and lives of leisure, although two of them are successful in owning their businesses.   The three include one who is an excessive shopper, another who has unusual sexual desires, and another who is being abused by her husband.  The story includes lies, deception, thievery, adultery, dishonesty, mental and physical abuse, and greed.

Author Charmaine R. Parker has a winner in this book.  The chapters focus on one character at a time and tell what is going on with that character.  I am interested in reading more books from this author.

About the Author
“By day, a school librarian. By night, a wife and mother. But in those quiet moments that are only mine, I write…”

Born and raised on the flatlands of Central Indiana, Tracy moved to the highlands of Utah at the age of nineteen. She quickly discovered that her brand new, top-of-the-line hiking boots were a waste of good money because she was never quite able to acclimate to the altitude in the Rockies. Tracy claims to suffer from a type of disorientation she attributes to altitude sickness to this day. It seems to be a permanent affliction. Her husband Benjamin cohabitates in a home with Tracy and the four beautiful but precocious children they lovingly created together. Although to others, their home may seem alarmingly chaotic, it is an insanity of their own making.

Book Blog Tour/Interview/Review: Sideline Scandals - Pat Tucker

I was excited when I found out Pat Tucker was releasing a new book... It's HERE!!! Sideline Scandals - if you follow Pat Tucker on Facebook - you will know she is just as feisty as the characters she creates. So she was the perfect Author to go "Off The Record" with Orsayor.

Off The Record with Orsayor

Orsayor: Are the names of the characters in your novels important?
Pat: Most people think I make up my characters names, but I never do! All of my characters are named after actual people I've met. Some of whom have asked me to use their name in a book. My 2014 book-The Cocktail Club has a character named after a FB friend because I LOVE her name. Darby:) I never told her, but FYI-names are not, and can not be copyrighted.

Orsayor: If you were going to commit the perfect murder, how would you go about it?
Pat: I would not murder anyone because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night afterwards, but if one of my characters were to do so, they'd spike a milkshake with anti-freeze over a period of time to make it the perfect murder.

Orsayor: Do you ever write naked?
Pat: I don't write naked. I'm usually in lounge wear, but never naked, Coach wouldn't let me get any work done if I did.

Orsayor: Who would play you in a film of your life?
Pat: Hmmm, I'm not sure who would play me, probably Gabrielle Union, but she's not young enough:)

Orsayor: What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
Pat: For all writers the most important attributes include always writing and always allowing your imagination to run wild.

Orsayor: What would you like for your Readers to know?
Pat: I would like my readers to know three things. First that I really appreciate their support, I could do what I do without readers, but it wouldn't be much fun.  Secondly I'd like my readers and those who have never read a Pat Tucker book to take a chance on me, and the final thing I'd like readers to know is that Orsayor's interview questions are among the best I've ever answered!
Thanks, Orsayor!

REVIEW
Sideline Scandals lives up to its name - Most people try to avoid scandals, but when you are reading a Pat Tucker novel, you actually find yourself excited to be on the sidelines of the scandal. (no pun intended)

When I started reading this novel, I knew I was in for an unforgettable ride. Sasha has to be one of my favorite characters in the book. There were times while reading this book I wanted to turn to someone and say... Can you believe this? Then I remembered I was the only one reading the book.

Pat Tucker's writing gets better with each book she releases. I highly recommend this book.

Guest Post: Starting Out As A Writer - Chris DeBrie

Starting Out As A Writer - 5 Things You Should Know

1. Ask yourself what and why. This is a series of questions and challenges for a writer who is trying to shape his manifesto. Why are you writing? Make sure you know what you want to get out of it, from personal satisfaction, accolades and attention of some kind, a big bank account, or maybe you are just venting... What do you like to write? This may not be the same as what you are good at writing, or what others have told you you're good at. One of the most important things you need to know as a writer are your goals... Are you writing to make money? Then that passion for short stories may not pay your mortgage. You might be better served sharing your knowledge. We all have a wheelhouse: A place where you know things others simply don't. We all immediately can pinpoint our biggest interests in life. Articles, books, podcasts, and videos focused on those interests can be a launch pad from which to build an income source... Are you simply in it for the love of writing and creating? Then you are more free than the money-focused writer. That path will require a day job unless you strike a main vein. But you will probably be more content in your art.

2. Treat writing as a hiker treats a mountain. I've heard from many people who admire the fact that I have written novels and other books. Usually I hear them confess that they have ideas and desires to do the same. They act as if it is magic or takes superhuman will and determination. They don't seem to process my words when I tell them that anyone can write a book. It does take will, but not as much as they think. Treat writing like eating a meal. You don't swallow a whole peanut butter and jelly sandwich at once, do you? No. You take a bite, chew and swallow. Then you take another bite. Writing is the same--if you want to write a paragraph, or a sentence, in one day, then do that. When I was a teenager, my grandfather gave me a good analogy about saving money. "A dollar doesn't look like anything and neither do two dollars, nor five bills stacked up together. But twenty dollar bills does. Fifty bills does... Just worry about the single bills, not about the total." The problem is that people want to gulp the whole meal all at once.

3. Keep things in perspective. With the exception of a few books and writers, almost no one's works survives longer than a few generations. Name any writer, even the most popular and long lasting, and there are millions of people who have never heard of him. This world is fleeting and vaporous. Don't write because you want to make a mark on history, because it's almost certainly not going to happen--not under your own power, anyway. You write because you have a predisposition; you have a love for it. Not because you think it's going to earn you fame and fortune. Those things are not normally under our control, and it's fool's gold, anyway.

4. Not everyone cares about what you are doing. This builds off of the last point--don't expect the world to come knocking just because you wrote your book. Promote, sell, shout from the rooftops. Be happy or proud of your creation. All well and good. Just remember that a hundred other books were released today, too, and all of those authors are toasting right along with you. I've found out the hard way that even those closest to me, who truly do care about me, never end up reading what I wrote. They may have the best intentions, but with all of modern life's distractions, family duties, and work, people don't always make time for your imaginations. Even if you sweated it out for years.

5. Other people don't make you or break you. Put all of your expectations aside and just write. Who cares if your mother doesn't read your book? What does it matter if your hometown newspaper ignores you because you are published but not a big name? What if your friends think your writing is not that great? Just write anyway. Take joy in creating or sharing your knowledge, whatever that is. Remember that this is a world of talking heads, and other people are usually not the experts that they think they are. One of my favorite expressions ever is, "Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has a couple, and they usually stink." Take your craft seriously, not yourself.

Review: Through The Fire: Journal of a child star - Dr. Danielle Spencer-Fields & Cheryl P. Pelt

REVIEW

I remember watching What's Happening as a kid, and always wanting to be like Dee Thomas. I had mastered telling on everyone, but I was never able to get away with having a smart mouth. Who can forget Dee's famous line from the show - "OOOH!! I'm telling Mama!

Through The Fire: Journal of a child star gives the reader an inside look of Danielle's life during and after her time with the shows - What's Happening & What's Happening Now. I love that this book is called a journal, because it was a very personal read. It felt as though I was reading entries from her diary.

She detailed the 1977 car accident that killed her stepfather, Tim Pelt and left her in a coma for three weeks during the first season of What's Happening. Years after the accident, Danielle was diagnosed with Spinal stenosis, which left her paralyzed for months.

This book is a testament of courage and strength.  I respect Dr. Danielle Spencer-Fields for sharing her story with the masses.
